I have just formatted my desktop and now i'm having problem with the audio, it doesn't make a sound, after browsing here and there the only information i get is this: my problems. 1) mine is built in sound card i think. 2)in control panel/sound & audio devices says no audio device my questions. 1) can someone help me find what driver should i install so i can play the sound.:-( i need it so bad. Do you have a link to the windows update scanner thing? I am not 100% sure that the copy of Windows I am using is legit, will this affect my ability to use the scanner? Can I not just download and install the Intel AC'97 generic driver without doing the scan? If this is possible do you know where I could download it from? Is the XP CD an original one with a Microsoft and/or company logo on it, or is it a burned copy?

It's possible that your friend gave you a pre-activated hacked copy of XP, but we don't know that for sure yet. When you go to the Windows Update site for the first time after you do a clean install of XP, it will require you to install WGA and possibly one or two others before you can access and obtain downloads from the site. What's the brand name, model name, and model number of that tower?
