Radeon 9000 Agp Pro Driver For Mac
Can I use an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro Mac Edition 128MB Video Card in a Mac Min Looking to buy a Mac mini. In 2004 I upgraded the graphics card in my dual processor 450 MHz G4 desktop with an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro Mac Edition 128MB Video Card to run a 20-inch Cinema Display.
Now my G4 has died (probably the power supply and I'm being told it's not worth it to fix-buy a Mac mini!) But I've read that the graphics card in the Mac mini is not stellar and I'm wondering if I could reuse the ATI Radeon 9000 Pro Mac Edition 128MB Video Card in the Mac mini. Would this be a good thing to do?

Why is the resolution so low? When I used my 128 Video Card, it was at that setting and I thought if I upgraded to the 256, my resolution would go higher. When I used to play a.mkv 720 movie with my 128 BIT card with VLC player, during the movie at some points the movie would freeze and the audio would still play and then after a while the movie would continue. This still happens with the 256 BIT card, why? I thought upgrading the card would improve my video abilities with VLC player and resolution. Anyone can help me out here? You have upgraded from 128 Megs of VRAM to 256 Megs of VRAM.

Sadly, it is still a memory bus of 128 bits, hence the poor performance. Your resolution stayed the same because that is all the dots there are on your older TV. (Native Resolution) The 9600 was never a speed demon.
You should check out Barefeats.com for speed comparisons. Hi there - I have a 645 Ultra-C with P4 1.7mhz attached to it. It has 640mb of RAM, Audigy 2, and brand new ATI Radeon 9000 pro. It's running WindowsXP The issue is that upon installing the ATI card into the machine WindowsXP is freezing and then recovering with an error message about a device failure. In checking the system log I see an error message about the ATI driver being stuck in a loop.
I am using the driver I downloaded from the ATI web site along with the ATI control panel software also downloaded from the ATI site. The drivers are the latest. I am able to regain stability by disabling hardware acceleration in Display Properties. This is less then ideal. I'm using version 7.2.0.1130 of the AGP driver. I'm not sure which BIOS rev, it would be the one the motherboard shipped with. However I'm unable to flash the BIOS really since I do not have access to a 98/ME box.
As I understand it I can only flash the BIOS from a 98/Me startup floppy on a non-FAT machine. LiveUpdate gives me an error message about the service not being started and that LiveUpdate only works with MSI graphics cards. In the BIOS I’ve switched the primary video card from PCI to AGP.
I’ve even downgrade from AGP 4x to APG 2x using the AGP utility. Flashed up to 1.90 via LiveUpdate2, after pulling ATI card and running on tnt2 card, and now I'm cranking. Back in 2005 when Tiger was the new OS, we were told that our ATI Radeon™ 9000 PRO Mac Edition graphics would not be supported under 10.4.x. Has this changed? Asbjoern So is this why all my fonts are screwed on my G4 MDD dual 1.25 using a ATI 9000 Pro? Seems as tho it works perfectly fine when i had 10.4.10 but when 10.4.11 was released all my fonts are screwed. Even when booting from a OSX CD.
I installed 10.5 and still doesnt work. Looks like i need a 9600. I am looking to purchase a new widescreen monitor (Viewsonic VA1912WB) which supports a native resolution on 1440x900. I am trying to determine if the ATI Radeon 9000 Pro card will properly support this resolution. Anyone have a clue, or tried it yourselves? I had found that page and had drawn the same 'hopeful' conclusion that you are suggesting. I also looked in my displays preference pane and noticed quite a few options that aren't on the ATI site as 'supported displays,' which leads me to believe it's possible.
I've checked out some other boards (pc based) and they are able to make it work but it involves modifying all sorts of driver files. Anyone else out there have the ATI card and the ability to test that resolution?. When working on large Photoshop files, whenever I make any move or change, file window goes blank, layers disappear, all that's visible is underlying grid.

Ideally, your scratch disk should have an amount of contiguous free space equal to at least three times the size of the file you are working on. Motion, Color, are not going to function as they should without a significant boost in several things, memory, processor speed, video card. In all honesty, you should be running FCP 4.5 or 5.0 which will run very well with your hardware. But since you already have FCS2, (I assume that's what you mean, not really Final Cut 2) hang on to it for when you decide to do what all of us eventually will have to do; buy an Intel based box. My G5 is fast approaching obsolete, and I'm just waiting for the next version of Final Cut Suite to see how much box I need to go to.

I have a ATI Radeon 9000 Pro video card. I have a 645E Max motherboard (MS-6547). I recently purchased a 512MB dimm of Kingston PC2700 Cas 2.5 memory (KVR333X64C25/512) to go with the the 256MB dimm of the same model # above. I installed the memory and my screen stays blank.
When I remove the new dimm it runs fine. I did get the memory and the motherboard tested at the store where I got the motherboard and they work fine. I came to the conclusion it was my video card when I removed all my components except the memory and the video card, and turned on the machine,nothing. I did try swiching dimm location and changing any bios settings I thought would make it work. I tried updating the video card drivers and motherboard AGP drivers. If anybody had this problem in the past could you tell me how you got it to work.
I took the board and the 2 dimms to the store where I bought them. They hooked up both dimms and a video card to the board. When it was powered up, both dimms were recognized. After I got home I proceded to determine if another component it conflicting with the memory. I started with both dimms and my video card the Radeon.
I powered up with no other hardware connected and the screen remains blank. I remove the 512MB dimm and leave the 256MB dimm in, and powered up and pc booted up normally.
Hi, I am trying to help a friend whose graphics card has bust. The old one was an ATI RADEON 9800 PRO-(256MB)-MAC EDITION. I've been looking on ebay and it seems a lot cheaper to get a Mac ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb Video Card For G4/G5. Can I just swap them over? The connectors are not identical according to the photographs.
I'd like to thank everyone for all the really useful information in this thread. It helped me solve a similar problem, which I'll describe here briefly in case it helps someone else. I have a 2004/5 dual 2 Ghz PowerPC G5 and an Apple Cinema HD display linked, as I later found out, with the now defunct ADC connector.
The display suddenly started to look like that scene in The Matrix, when code falls like rain down the screen, and I worked out I needed to replace my Radeon 9800 pro video card (I discovered the board was blue when I removed a thick layer of dust). I took japamac's excellent advice and bought a Geforce 6800 Ultra from the linked eBay seller in Hong Kong, who delivered it extremely quickly, along with the cables to plug it into the DVD drive power source and a CD with installation instructions. It was only then that I realised the card had two DVI connectors and my display needed ADC (I hadn't understood the difference). EBay came to the rescue again with a seller who had a secondhand DVI to ADC adapter, which Apple produced when it phased out ADC about six years ago but no longer sells.
It has its own power supply and looks like a large version of the Mac laptop power cables - and has added signifcantly to the pile of spaghetti under my desk. Installing the Geforce 6800 Ultra is fiddly, and a bit scary if you're not used to delving into the insides of a Mac, but the instructions were clear and illustrated with useful photos. The video cable has four connectors. Two fit into the end of the card, the other two (linked in a Y shape) form a bridge between the DVD/superdrive and its power cable.
You have to remove the DVD drive, unplug it, and then plug one of the two Y video card connectors into the DVD power cable and the other into the DVD drive itself. Then you replace the DVD drive, plug the two remaining cable connectors to the video card and ease it into the old card's AGP slot. Finally, with the G5 reassembled, plug the adapter's DVI connection into the back of the card, plug the Cinema Display ADC cable into the adapter block, plug the adapter's USB cable into the G5 (this enables the the USB ports on the back of the display to work), and power up. At the time of writing, the display has been up and running for a couple of hours and all seems fine. Thanks again everyone for all your help and advice. If it wasn't for communities like this, it would be virtually impossible to solve problems with old but still serviceable Macs.
Looking for advice on Mac Pro with a dying video card. This the early Xeon dual core 3.0Ghz with an ATI Radeon X1900. Maybe the Nvidia Quadro 4500. I know there is s Quadro 4800 which I don't know if will will work with this older Mac Pro.

I can't get the best performance from it because my MP only has PCI Express 1.0 slots. How's everybody doin? I just picked up a used ATI 9000 AGP 128 MB (as an upgrade for my G4 Quicksilver 800 MHZ). I'm using 2 HD's (one with OS9), the other (with OSX) I think OS 9.2 will do ok without the need for a driver, but I just wanna make sure.

Dont really know whats wrong with it. The agp slot is good, i'm getting power to the card, my board is set to boot agp/pci for the video so thats good. Only problem is is that i'm not sure what the model of my motherboard is to check with compatiblity. Got the mb and processor from a buddy of mine. He got the mb and processor from a friends grandpa. So to make long storys short. I have no idea what my computer is made of but from what i hear ati products dont seem to get along well with msi.
